Produced by FAW-Volkswagen from 2001 to 2008, the first-generation Bora is a classic compact family car. Boasting solid German craftsmanship, well-rounded performance and tuning tailored to Chinese consumers' demands, it recorded total sales of over 4 million units and remained an enduring popular model in China's compact car segment.
In 2001, FAW-Volkswagen launched the fourth-generation Jetta in China under the name "Bora", marking the debut of the Bora lineup in the country. This model was equipped with 1.6L and 1.8L naturally aspirated engines as well as a 1.8L turbocharged engine, paired with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. It adopted a front MacPherson strut and rear torsion beam suspension setup with a sport-oriented tuning, delivering precise steering and distinct road feedback.
At a time when most family cars on the Chinese market prioritized comfort, it was promoted as "The Driver's Car". The model quickly won favor among drivers who pursued driving pleasure and built a solid reputation for the Bora brand.
